The Healing Powers of Peppermint Oil
Peppermint is definitely an under-appreciated essential oil that has many health and healing benefits.
As the seasons change and your body's temperature shifts, it's one of the most powerful tonics you can have in your medicine cabinet at home to boost and restore your immune function.
A naturally occurring hybrid of spearmint is peppermint or "Mentha piperata".
The word peppermint is also a hybrid or compound word which has it's ancient origins literally meaning:
"Pepper" [Lively] & "Mint" [Mentally]
Peppermint is a wonderful oil to help alleviate mental fog and stimulate mental function, which is why I provide a sample to all of those folks who attend my "Basecamp For Health" event to maintain alertness throughout the 3 days.
Peppermint is a herb prized for its medicinal benefits and distinctive flavour.
Specifically, peppermint can help to:
- Clear congestion, coughs, colds and allergies;
- Relieve flatulence, IBS and diverticular disorders;
- Control mild asthma;
- Alleviate muscular aches and pains;
- Dissolve gallstones;
- Ease nausea and vomiting;
- Reduce heartburn;
- Knock out bad breath;
- Relieve mental and emotional stress.
In the digestive tract, peppermint oil acts as a muscle relaxant which is why it's added to dozens of commercial antacid products. It can also reduce the inflammation of nasal passages and relieve muscle pains.
Not surprisingly, peppermint is a key ingredient in most toothpastes and breath fresheners (but please avoid the commercial varieties that contain fluoride!). Instead make your own at home by combining Bicarb Soda, Peppermint Oil, Celtic Sea Salt or for convenience, we handcraft Toothfairy which you can order from my DTI store.
To calm the digestive system during medical procedures, the effects of peppermint oil make it a viable alternative to conventional medications. Researchers in Japan have shown that peppermint oil is safe and affective in reducing digestive spasms during Upper Endoscopy and Double Contrast Barium Enema.
Peppermint can be added to foods, juices and even brewed into a tea. You can also gain great results from applying a concentrated peppermint oil to the skin. When smelling, inhaling or applying essentials oil directly to the skin they are absorbed and carried through the bloodstream to their intended target.
Essential Peppermint Oil has as an astonishingly rich, strong, clean, fresh, minty and impactful aroma and is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herb for soothing digestion, as well as easing nervous headaches, congestion and freshening the breath.
It is also has powerful antibacterial properties which is why it is perfect when your immune system isn't functioning at it's ultimate pace!
The impactful aroma is what will clear out your nose if you suffer from congestion and is why I chose it as one of the main ingredients in my Breathe EZ
